The project is part of an exercise in architectural, urban and social recovery of the community of Pisagua (a port located in the north of Chile), rehabilitating the railway station - currently in disuse - projecting an open museum in and around it and public library.

For this effect, the integration strategy seeks to reorganize urban planning through zoning more relevant to the rise of Pisagua as a future port (thus projected by the authorities and state plans). Conversing in turn with the difficult characteristics of the northern part of the Chilean coast: coastal cliffs, earthquakes and tidal waves.

It is established through a master plan, to transform the Pisagua plateau as a "museum city", and in this way rehabilitate its heritage buildings.

One of these buildings is the railway station, which evokes the tangible and intangible heritage of Pisagua, the latter being the most important.

This building carries with it the remembrance of times typical of its use, such as the nitrate boom, the northern part of Chile as part of the Peruvian domain, the War of the Pacific, and more recently its performance as a boundary structure of a political prison reclusion camp in the terms of Carlos Ibañez del Campo (19271-931), Gabriel González Videla (1946 -1952), and Augusto Pinochet (19731-975). All this historical baggage, aims to be exalted, through the conjunction of constant use (citizenship / library) and sporadic use (tourist / museum).
