"CHIRIMOYA ALEGRE" CRADLE ROOM AND CHILDREN'S GARDEN

Materiality: Wood (pine slats, OSB boards, plywood boards), prepainted zinc, honeycomb polycarbonate.

Project Memory

In the framework of the regulatory change of the preschool education superintendency, RADAR is requested to carry out - from an existing house - the habilitation and expansion for a kindergarten and nursery.

The premise follows the line of our declarations as architecture; and although during the design process modifications related to the budget reduction are made by the client (mutating in form and in some materials), it manages to maintain its basic anchor: to be an artifact for education.

In the extension building, spacious and naturally illuminated spaces are presented, with evident intention in the texture of its interior surfaces (wood), contrasting with its colorful exteriors (zinc).

On the other hand, in the rehabilitation building, existing elements of the original house are valued (such as an exposed stone wall), and in turn lost spaces are recovered (such as the patio of light, covered by tenants previous, that the project recovers and exhibits).

 

Being outside but inside without having to resort to the need to expand openings to allow the exterior, the material and its textures to be accessible to children, furniture designed for interaction and stimulation in early childhood; little winks to make the warm, content and interactive interior support education.


Attending to the creativity (in excessive cases) of the kindergartens around the didactic material, rather than being against mounting it on the walls of the building, we seek to be at the service of it happening, cleaning walls and predisposing spaces for tutors and children interact with the building.

The project is also aligned with the updated Universal Accessibility regulations in all its pedagogical spaces.
